Raquel Tavares (born 11th January 1985 in Portugal) is a Portuguese Fado singer. In her childhood, she had a fairly normal education route, but in the end decided she wanted to pursue music more than anything else.
Career
Raquel won one of the biggest Portuguese fado competitions, "Grande Noite de Fado". She also regularly performs at "Bacalhau de Molho", one of the most popular fado houses in Lisbon, and has performed in cities across Europe.
In 2004, she played a minor role as a fado singer in the Portuguese film "The Miracle According to Salomé".
Her first album was released in 2006, the same year she won the Amália Rodrigues Revelation Prize.
Her second album, Bairro, was released in 2008. In this same year, she participated in the Eurovision Dance Contest 2008 with João Tiago, placing 8th.
The Origin Song Contest
Raquel represented Portugal at The Origin Song Contest 01 in Kraków, Poland, with her song "Meu Amor de Longe". She failed to qualify for the final, placing 16th (last) with 2 points.
