Poland took part in the first edition of The Origin Song Contest, which was hosted in Kraków, Poland. The country was represented by Kasia Popowska with the song "Dryfy", composed by Popowska. The entry was selected internally by a number of music professionals at TVP, the Polish broadcaster. The song placed ninth in the final with 72 points.
On 5th February 2017, TVP revealed that "Dryfy" performed by Kasia Popowska would represent Poland at the first edition of The Origin Song Contest. The song, composed by Popowska herself, was selected through an open call for submissions by TVP.
The song was debuted by a live performance of the entry on Wiadomości, the main TVP news programme, broadcast on TVP1. In addition, the preview was live streamed to the rest of Europe via a live stream on the The Origin Song Contest website.
At The Origin[]
On 4 February 2017, the semi-final allocation draw for The Origin Song Contest 01 took place at the Cloth Hall in Kraków, where the heads of delegation of the participating countries met to discuss the upcoming contest, and also where the countries would be allocated into halves of the two semi-finals. As host country Poland was allocated into the first half of the final.
The betting odds for the edition placed Poland ninth place out of the thirty-three participating countries with odds of 3.33. This placed Poland between Norway and Monaco in the betting odds.
In addition, on 9 February, several members of the Polish delegation travelled to Riga, Latvia, where Popowska performed her song "Przyjdzie taki dzień" at the Riga pre party organised by the Latvian broadcaster and fan club.
On 10 February 2017, the running order draw for the contest took place, once again at the Cloth Hall. Kasia was drawn to perform in second position in the final. At the time, the countries preceding and following Poland were not known, however on 5 March, it was known that the country would be preceded by Denmark and followed by Romania.
At the close of the voting, Poland had finished in ninth place with 72 points, coming eleventh in the positive voting with 83 points, and third in the negative voting with -11 points.
Both semi-finals as well as the final of the edition were aired on TVP1. In the semi-finals, commentary was provided by Artur Orzech, and in the final commentary was by Orzech as well as Agnieszka Popielewicz.
To host the contest, TVP chose Anna Popek and Paulina Sykut Jeżyna.
